A Training Day

So sorry for the lack of updates.  I have been working a lot of hours at my other job.

Today we were working on boxing defense and counter punches.  If you want to know what that looks like, take a gander at this video:

I did okay, but I still have allot to learn about boxing.  I am loving every minute of learning, though!  I  also found out today that I can take a good hard punch as well as give them!  We have two pros who train with us and  I got caught with a left hook and trust me when I say, they hurt like hell.  I would say that today was the hardest I have ever been hit.

We also worked on  our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  There is so much to learn, but I can say with all my heart that I love  every minute of training!

I will have training on Friday so I will have more to post then.

On a side note, I bought my first MMA fight shorts today.  Diana s thinks they look cool, but let me know what you guys think!

Cardio and Endurance

Yesterday I ran 4.7 miles and today I am going to run another 4.7 miles.  I’m working on my cardio and endurance so I always have full gas tank when I train and when I fight.

I am going to meet a good friend next week who is going to help me reshape  the way I’m eating because I have learned the hard way that what you put in your body you get out of your body.  In other words, if you don’t eat healthy your body will stop working during training a lot sooner that you want to and you won’t be able to finish your workout or the fight.  And I want to be able to finish my fights!  Or if I can’t finish the fight, then at least give the guy pure hell for three five minute rounds!

MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is combining or learning multiple martial art disciplines to defeat an opponent.  The disciplines I am learning are boxing, kick-boxing, wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jtsu.  I'm training at a local MMA gym, Bad Dog Fighting and Fitness.  It's a small gym, but we're like a band of brothers.  The one-on-one coaching is great because having to learn so many disciplines is so hard and corrections need to be made quickly so you don't learn things wrong.  Out of the 10-15 students we have, we all bring different skills to the table, whether that be from the guys who are pro so we learn how to be professional fighters or from amateur guys we all have different skills in different areas and, therefore, can learn from each other.  Some guys are great at wresting and some are great at boxing and others are great at grappling.

And today my wife found my first bruise!  I don't even notice these things, but she does.  Getting beat up is all part of the job and I love it!
